Sabine Wehr-Hasler und Kentaro Miyawaki holen sich erstmals einen FIS-Weltcup-Sieg. Rund 2500 Zuschauer bringen tolle Stimmung an die Halfpipe in Berchtesgaden. Herrliches Wetter bei Temperaturen um minus fünf Grad und eine tolle Zuschauerkulisse (nahezu 4000) sorgen wieder für eine Top-Veranstaltung, wie schon gestern im Parallel Riesenslalom, auch in der Halfpipe. 83 Freestyle-Snowboarder aus 23 Nationen starteten in der Qualifikation. Die besten fünf Frauen und zehn Männer kämpften im Finale um die Podiums-Plätze. Bei den Männern gab es einen Überraschungssieg durch den heute überragenden Japaner Kentaro Miyawaki, der bisher noch nie durch vordere Plätze aufgefallen war. Mit einem 32ten und 36ten Platz in Whistler (USA) und Mt.St.Anne (CAN) hatte sich der Japaner noch nicht für "Höheres" empfohlen. Um so überraschender seine Top-Leistungen heute in der Pipe. In beiden Finalläufen, von denen der bessere als Endergebnis zählt, erreichte Miyawaki die jeweils höchste Punktzahl. Er steigerte sich nochmals im zweiten Finaldurchgang und erhielt für seine Weltklasseleistung 42.4 Punkte. Damit hatte er einen Vorsprung von 1.6 Punkten auf den amtierenden Weltmeister Ricky Bower (USA, 40.8 Punkte). Mit nur 0.2 Punkten Rückstand kam der Schwede Fredrik Sterner (Vizeweltmeister 1999) auf Platz drei. Miyawaki: "Ich bin total überrascht. Aber heute ist es einfach gelaufen wie noch nie. Die top-preparierte Pipe und die tolle Stimmung haben mir sehr geholfen. Ich bin überglücklich. Das ist Wahnsinn." Im Halfpipe-Weltcup-Gesamtstand führt nun Thomas Johansson (SWE, 1660, heute neunter) vor Rob Kingwill (USA, 1600) und Aleksi Litovara (FIN, 1500, heute fünfter). Nicht ganz so überraschend fiel der Sieg von Sabine Wehr-Hasler (GER) aus, die bereits zum Saisonauftakt in Tignes zweite wurde. Auch sie erzielte in beiden Finalläufen die höchste Punktzahl aller Teilnehmerinnen. Mit 33.5 Punkten siegte sie schließlich knapp vor der Schwedin Anna Olofsson, die mit 33.3. Punkten nur 0.2 Punkte Rückstand auf Wehr-Hasler aufwies. Die 32jährige Wehr-Hasler, die schon im 10ten Jahr im Weltcup fährt, sicherte sich heute ihren ersten FIS-Weltcup-Sieg und übernahm gleichzeitig die Führung im Halfpipe-Weltcup. Damit zahlt sich kontinuierliches und intensives Training für sie aus. Wehr-Hasler: "Wir haben im Sommer sogar auf dem Surfbrett (Windsurfen) trainiert. Und es hat wohl genutzt. Ich hatte ein optimales Gefühl auf dem Brett und war locker wie lange nicht. Es gibt eben so Tage, da passt einfach alles. Letztes Jahr bei der WM am Götschen (sechster Platz HP), hatte ich schon ans Aufhören gedacht. Aber so wie es aussieht werde ich jedes Jahr ein bißchen besser. Das ist wie bei gutem Wein." Im Halfpipe Gesamtweltcup liegen hinter der Führenden Wehr-Hasler (GER, 2650 Punkte) Anna Hellmann (SWE, 2330, heute Dritte) und Trycia Byrnes (USA, 1740) auf den Plätzen. Cheering crowd at the Berchtesgaden Halfpipe event Miyawaki and Wehr-Hasler take first-ever World Cup wins Berchtesgaden (GER).

Another bright and sunny day at Berchtesgaden where the Halfpipe riders held their fourth competition as part of the 1999/2000 NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cup today. Kentaro Miyawaki from Japan and Germany's Sabine Wehr-Hasler took the gold. About 4,000 spectators had come to Berchtesgaden today to watch the Halfpipe riders at their fourth competition of the season. Although the current World Cup leaders Rob Kingwill and Tricia Byrnes from the USA had not been at the start, the fans, who lined up at the pipe especially during the finals, really had fun cheering and pushing the riders through the pipe all day. Kentaro Miyawaki from Nagano, Japan, who was not considered to be one of the contenders for a win before, just surprised his rivals and all people at the pipe with his performance and it was not just a question of luck for him taking the gold medal finally since he managed to finish first place in both final runs. "I felt well," he said, "but I did not expect to end up like this today. It just went really well all day and I can't believe that I made it. I like the pipe a lot and hope I can keep on like this now..." Reigning World Champion Ricky Bower, USA, did not have a means to catch up with the Japanese and finished second ahead of Magnus Sterner from Sweden. His teammate Thomas Johansson took ninth position today but took the lead in the World Cup standings. Kingwill dropped back to second place ahead of NOKIA team rider Aleksi Litovara from Finland who finished fifth today. Sabine Wehr-Hasler was Germany's big hope for today's competition. The 32-year-old did pretty good so far this season and especially improved her tricks. Leading after the first final run she really wanted to make it happen today and finally did with taking her first-ever World Cup win on the FIS tour. "A dream came true today," she said, overwhelmed by emotions, "to get to the very top at the age of 32 and make this happen here at the Götschen... I really don't know what to say. I hoped to make a good result here at the Worlds last year but failed, I did not do the back flip at that time. It was just great I could take my revenge today and with all those people cheering it was just amazing. That's something unique here." A lot of windsurfing over the summer together with her husband Patrick Hasler has probably also helped to make it happen. Sweden's Anna Olofsson and Anna Hellman went in second and third. With today's win Wehr-Hasler also took the yellow bib of the World Cup leader. Hellman is in second position now ahead of Byrnes. Wieder französischer Doppelsieg im Parallel Slalom -
Isabelle Blanc und Matthieu Bozzetto siegen am Götschen

Beide führen den Parallel Gesamtweltcup und die Overall-Wertung an. Den französischen Triumph vervollständigen Karine Ruby (Zweite Frauen) und Nicolas Huet (Dritter Herren). Mit leichtem Schneefall am Morgen, tagsüber Hochnebel und Temperaturen um die minus fünf Grad waren die Bedingungen am Götschen auch am dritten Wettkampftag gut, wenn auch nicht mehr so perfekt wie an den ersten beiden Tagen des NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cups in Berchtesgaden. Neben den dominierenden Franzosen schlugen sich die Deutschen Snowboarder achtbar: Markus Ebner erreichte den vierten, "Matty" Behounek den fünften Platz bei den Herren. Bei den Frauen erreichten Lokalmatadorin Heidi Renoth Platz 11 und Nachwuchstalent Katja Reinauer Platz 13. Matthieu Bozzetto aus Val d´Isere war im Parallelslalom wieder nicht zu schlagen. Mit viel Glück und letztem Einsatz überstand "Mr. Bombastic" (Slalom Weltcup Sieger 1999) die Runde der letzten acht. Im ersten Lauf hatte im sein Gegner Stephen Copp (SWE. bis heute Führender im Parallel Weltcup) 83/100stel abgenommen, mußte sich nach dem zweiten Lauf jedoch um 3/1000stel Sekunden geschlagen geben. Nachdem Bozzetto im ersten Lauf des Halbfinales gegen den Deutschen Markus Ebner durch Sturz mit der Penalty-Time von 1.31 Sekunden zurückgelegen hatte, schaffte er wieder das Kunststück nach dem zweiten Durchgang 3/1000stel Sekunden vorne zu liegen. Das Finale entschied Bozzetto dann souverän gegen den überraschend starken Österreicher Felix Stadler für sich. Bozzetto: "Auf dem eigentlich einfacheren roten Kurs bin ich heute nicht zurecht gekommen, habe immer wieder Fehler gemacht. Dafür bin ich auf dem blauen Kurs traumhaft sicher gefahren. Da waren wohl zwei Bozzettos unterwegs. Beide haben unter dem Strich gewonnen (lacht)." Das kleine Finale gewann Bozzettos Teamkollege Nicolas Huet gegen den Deutschen Markus Ebner. Bozzetto (2940 Punkte) führt nun die Parallel Weltcup-Wertung an, vor Nicolas Huet (FRA, 2560) und Stephen Copp (SWE, 2510). Den französischen Triumph komplettierte wieder Isabelle Blanc, die den Parallel Slalom der Frauen gewann. Die Parallel Riesenslalom-Weltmeisterin 1999 und Vizeweltmeisterin im Parallel Slalom von Berchtesgaden schaltete im Halbfinale Sara Fischer (SWE) aus und traf im Finale auf ihre Teamkollegin und Konkurrentin, Karine Ruby, Olympiasiegerin im Riesenslalom von Nagano. Ruby hatte im Halbfinale die stark auffahrende österreichische Nachwuchsfahrerin Nina Schlegel ausgeschaltet. Isabelle Blanc ließ Ruby in beiden Läufen des Finales keine Chance und siegte souverän. Blanc: "Ich habe mich heute locker und sicher gefühlt. Wenn es im Kopf stimmt, kommt das andere von selbst. Es war sehr schön im Finale gegen Karine (Ruby) fahren zu können. Wir sind immer sehr motiviert gegeneinander. Im Prinzip kann jede der Finalistinnen jede schlagen. Ich bin überglücklich heute wieder auf dem Treppchen ganz oben zu stehen." Den dritten Platz schaffte Nina Schlegel (AUT), die Sara Fischer (SWE) im Kampf um Platz drei klar besiegte. Im Parallel Gesamtweltcup der Frauen führt Isabelle Blanc (FRA; 3800 Punkte) vor Manuela Riegler (AUT, 2750, heute fünfte) und Margerita Parini (ITA, 2360, heute 12.). Tricolore again in Parallel Racing Berchtesgaden (GER)

Pure excitement again at today's Parallel Slalom as part of the 1999/2000 NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cup in Berchtesgaden. With Matthieu Bozzetto and Isabelle Blanc taking the gold the French once more dominated the competition. After two bright and sunny days at Berchtesgaden snow falls had started last night also continued this morning during the qualification for the season's second Parallel Slalom race and just stopped in time for the finals. NOKIA team rider Matthieu Bozzetto was the number one contender for another victory but it did not turn out to be such a clear thing for him today. As usual in Parallel racing there were always two runs to do in each heat, one on the red and one on the blue course, and the French seemed to have big problems with the red. However none of his rivals was able to beat him on that blue course and he finally managed to get another gold under his belt. "I was very fast today," he said, "but I always made big mistakes one the red although this was the easier one. The worse I did there the better it went on the other, incredible. It was like being two different racers in one person on the hill, a really bad one on the red and an extremely good one on the blue. I just could not believe what was going on there. All in all I'm really happy with the race." Felix Stadler from Austria for the first time made it to a Parallel final today and claimed his second podium this weekend. "It was funny," he said, "with bib number 13 I finished third in the PGS on Friday and took it as an omen that I had the 12 today. Bib 11 would be fine next time..." Germany's Markus Ebner looked like he could beat the reigning World Champion Nicolas Huet in the duel for third place but finally had to leave it to the French and finished fourth. Bozzetto is now leading the Parallel standings ahead of Huet. Stephen Copp from Sweden who was eliminated by Bozzetto in the quarter finals today and ended up sixth place and dropped back to third. Isabelle Blanc again completed the French double with taking the gold in the women's head-to-head duels. She felt pretty confident on both slopes but has just put everything into every single run. "It's phantastic," she said, "I felt really good and safe today. It was nice to race against Karine (Ruby) although it's always big pressure to race against each other. I know she's strong and I had to fight hard but it's good that she's back... Nobody is easy to race against in the finals and you always have to put 200 percent into every run. Nina Schlegel from Austria finished third by beating Sweden's Sara Fischer. Schlegel could not believe it herself: "I don't know what to say," she said, overwhelmed, "I just tried to make it to anywhere top 20 but when I qualified for the finals I thought I could even get to the top eight. The further I made it the more the pressure grew. I'm really happy." Blanc is further leading the Parallel standings ahead of Manuela Riegler from Austria who took fifth place today. Italy's Margerita Parini is in third after having finished 12th. The World Cup riders travel on to Schönried (SUI) now where the next stage is scheduled for the upcoming week featuring Giant Slalom and Snowboard Cross.
